Are you a Goodwill/Thrift Store shopper?? If so, I’d LOVE to hear your tips and tricks for shopping at a store and getting the best deals! 🙂
*My Tip: is don’t get carried away! Even if you spot a good deal, don’t buy it unless you know you have a use for it! Plus make sure to know the return policy at your thrift store! Don’t buy items for other people unless you KNOW they want them because at most stores, you can’t return!

I’ve had a LOT of trouble finding work anywhere in my little two-horse town. I have a degree in plant biology and even the local tomato farm won’t hire me. So I started getting creative! At a town about 2 hours’ drive away they have a Goodwill and on Sundays they do their dollar special day. Its a TOTAL college town so TONS of name brand items get donated and I go and clean them out once a month, first thing in the morning. Then I come home (where our idea of the local mall is Dollar General) and sell all the name brand clothes I’ve gotten at a yard sale and make a profit. Thank goodness for Goodwill!

I love thrift store shopping! I wish my goodwill had 50% off. The closest they come is to have 50% off a certain color tag two days a week. Like the others said, TAKE YOUR TIME. If you are loooking for clothes, if you just glance at the rack, it can look like a lot of faded old clothes. If you take your time, you can find some real gems, some items with original tags still on. I also started looking for items that I could buy and sell online for a profit. So far I have done this with books, mostly children’s books, children’s games, and dvds. It makes a little extra money for things I truly want.

At our Goodwill store here in Warren, Pa. One can get carried away with the sales. On Sunday’s and Monday’s the store promotion is 39 cent clothing depending on the color tag day-housewares is 25 cents. One has to remember to tell oneself “do I really need this.” The clothing is cheap and one can get more clothing than one needs or even wear. Great time. I love the Goodwill store and Thrift stores. When my nephew was young I went to get his play clothes. Saved a lot of money. I also think it is important to recycle what one doesn’t need or want any more. Have a great time shopping.

Goodwill has 50% the entire store every other Saturday. I plan to go just then. I grab everything I might want and then go over the clothes in detail and put back the kids clothes with stains and things before I check out to make sure I dont miss out on a great deal (its a mad house in there on those days!).

My tip is that I bring a quick jotted down list of what I could really use, what I have too much of, and around the middle of the year – a holiday gift list too. By sticking to my list and allowing myself at least one under $5 silly splurge, I find I have a great time at the thrift shop and don’t feel guilty afterwards.

The thrift store I go to let you trade your items. My brother will take like shoes or something to the store we shop at and they will let him get a different pair of shoes. They are very nice. I take my time. I love getting baby clothes from thrift stores. I don’t think I need to go out and buy expensive onsies when they are just going to get stained anyway. The store here has a color of the week, whatever color they choose the items with that color tag on it will be 50% off. I always buy stuff I need or Im going to need very soon. My son is due is august so I have been buying newborn clothes. I got 10 onsies and 5 sleepers for $25 dollars. My tip would be already know what you want before you go. I always end up buying more then enough but some things are just priced so low that if you don;t get it then it will be gone. Take your time and look around. Make sure you always look for rips or holes in clothes. Some you can fix easily some take too much time.

I frequent thrift store and my #1 rule is NEVER go into a thrift store when you are in a hurry. You need to take your time and really look things over, especially clothes for stains. If it is a electrical item ask to plug it in before you purchase it, there are always plugs you can use in the store.
You can return most items at Goodwill in So Cal with a receipt for store credit only, though they don’t really appreciate it when you do.
Just because it is as Goodwill does not mean it is a deal. Think before you buy!
