Everyone has different reasons for using coupons!  I’m sharing  my story with you because I think someone, somewhere out there will relate and enjoy reading! I want to share with you everything I’m learning each step of the way!  I’m new to couponing so I can use all the tips you have to offer!

All Because (2) People Fell in Love…

Eric and I have run this site for about 4 years now. Until recently, we didn’t really feature coupons or how to get deals with coupons because I didn’t really know how to! I got married when I was 24 and Eric was 26. It was just the two of us living in an apartment where we paid $400 for our rent, utilities and the whole shabang! We both had degrees and were working full time. So, you could say we were living a comfortable life and eating and buying what we wanted without looking at the prices.  Well if only life could stay that simple! (I had to post this image as proof I’m not an OVERLY crafty person.. this sign I made was supposed to read “All Because TWO people Fell in Love”).

Owning A Home Means More Expenses?!

Buying our first home was a fun, exciting, joyous time in our lives!  We were all “growed” up officially!  Somehow we under estimated the costs of everything that comes along AFTER you’ve given your life savings to purchase the home! (Fixing the pipes that lead nowhere, finishing a yard, leaking roofs.. you get where I’m going with this.) So our savings were looking grimmer.

Finding Jobs We Loved

Then Eric moved jobs (which made him SOOO much happier) but paid him less. I was working full time as an events coordinator, but wasn’t happy. Eric suggested I stay home and start working on our My Free Product Samples blog full time and get used to being at home for when we had kids! So.. in about a 6 months we:

• Lost about half of our income
• Purchased a new home (which I LOVE)
• Finished a yard and
• Suffered from “Utility Bill Shock Sydrome!”

Something’s Gotta Change

We realized that if we ever wanted to add another little person into our family and afford all of our new expenses on smaller salaries, it was going to be all about that mean six letter “B” word.. a BUDGET! Now, we aren’t those crazy people that go buy a new car because they felt like it or go on big shopping sprees, but we loved going out to eat, movies, vacations, all that good stuff. So we looked over our budget and decided on all the things we could cut out of our life.  After cutting out the dish t.v., the faster internet, the expensive clothes, and other things, it came to cutting down our grocery budget!

How Can I become “That” Coupon Lady?

I started googling and researching what all was behind the crazy world of coupons! Why on earth would those ladies I’d see at the store be willing to cut and clip and go to all the hassle of organizing those HUGE coupon books! As I researched it was easy to find deal upon deal where things were either free or nearly free from using coupons!  I wanted the excitement of saving and showing my husband just how much money I had saved us! It all seems overwhelming at first, but like anything else, once you get the hang of it and figure how your personality “works” with couponing, it’s really exciting!
